I am sure there are many things that can be said about the Sri Lankan education system. First of all it's it provides a free education to all children to the age of 16 and as with UK students there are examinations of 'O' level equivalent. However whereas in the UK students take a series of examinations and each stands alone, in Sri Lanka students who wish to continue to further or higher education must pass them all at the same time, fail one,  and you must resit them all and so, students who need additional tuition must find alternative means, so and many will come to Dr Sam’s.

So, as well as supporting older students for their resiets, Dr Sam teaches all students, in building on that which they receive from the State School.
This means that the children come to Dr Sam in the afternoon having already attended state school in the morning. The tuition is offered free and many parents see the value of it, so currently Dr Sam has160 students on its register.

Whilst my time was limited it was a joy and a privilege to listen and share with the students, who as far as I could tell were happy to be there. The ethos of the centre may be more condusive, to learning which is delivered in mutual respect and understanding, that each person has individual worth and value.
In some you see an eagerness to learn.

Two19yr old girls had come to the centre asking to be taught IT, computer skills in order that they could apply for specific positions of work, another, another to improve her own English offers her time to the centre and helps the younger children in their English, as well as making herself available at other opportunities for conversation and enquiry.

There is so much more, the centre has ambitious plans to develop its buildings and facilites to the benefit all who pass through. Now, this is a blogpost a diary so I ask you who read this, if you want to know more then speak to Christine Pathmarajah.

Underpinning this work comes Christian values, where children learn as much about the love of God through example as by teaching. I thank God for Indrany's inspiration to begin this work and pray that he continue to bless it and the lives of the children whom it benefits.

Meanwhile  invite your prayers for:
Mrs Indrany Jegarajah (president and inspiration behind the project)
Ms B.Shanmugarajah (registrar, who takes her driving test on 15th March)
Dr Stephen Pathmarajah
Mrs Christine Pathmarajah
Vishi and all the students and their families.
