Melrose to Harestanes (Monday 22nd April)

Distance 24km

St Cuthbert's Way starts at the gates of the magnificent 12th century Melrose Abbey in the border town of Melrose.

From Melrose, an invigorating climb takes you over the iconic Eildon Hills whose triple peaks are one of the best loves landmarks of the Scottish Borders.
Catching my breath - after such a climb right at the beginning of the walk - I have a panoramic view of Melrose, the Moorfoot and Lammenrmuir Hills to the north, and the Cheviot range to the south.

From here, I drop down to Bowden

and nearby Newton St Boswells, along the river Tweed

passed Dryburgh Abbey and into St Boswells, walking south from Maxton, I follow Dere Street,  in the footsteps of the Romans who built the original road, now a tree lines grassy track, passing Lady Lilliard's Tomb,

and onto Harestanes visitor centre and the end of day one.

Today was that opportunity to clear the  mind, express to God those things that frustrate to get things off my chest so as to speak....  it's so easy in ministry to get sucked into the ways of the world, the ways of church, which in the end are invariably not the ways of God.

You just need to look around!
