Day 1 Genesis1:1 to Genesis15:4

Manchester to Colombo 7hrs 40 minutes, 3hr hang over in Abu Dhabi, 4hrs Colombo to Kandy add the 5 and half hour time difference - you'd expect to be tired.  Guess it's the excitement of it all that keeps you going.

The road trip to Kandy was uneventful, though I had forgotten how chaotic and how much it felt like a free for all - the relative security and reassurance of driving on the left was quickly overtaken, undertaken tooted and hooted as two lanes of traffic became 4,5 and at times six when there was at best room for three. Thankfully I wasn't driving, and instead was able to enjoy the early sights and sounds of Sri Lanka. Whose name comes from Serendib coined by Arab traders, from which derives serendipity.
Marco Polo described it as the finest island of its size in the world, I'm looking forward to meeting its people and marvelling at its rich diversity - in this my broadly unplanned, fortunate discovery.

A1 leaving Colombo

Though it appeared chaotic there was remarkable tolerance and acceptance between car, bus, lorry, motorcycle and the ubiquitous Tut Tuck drivers.

Arrived at the Special Guest House, Theological College of Lanka, Pilimatalowa around 7pm and after a light supper, sleep came easily, tomorrow is another day.

Today would you pray for Anne, who is here serving as a mission partner from the Methodist world church, for she is my guide and my companion, as God is my strength.
