Harestanes to Yetholm (Tuesday 23rd April)

Distance 28km 17.5 miles

"Cry England and St George"

Setting off again from the visitor centre, I cross the Monteviot Suspension Bridge,

 just below Monteviot House.

From here St Cuthbert's way meanders along the banks of the river Teviot to Jedfoot and Jedfoot bridge, where I rejoin a short stretch of Dere Street and on to Cessford and Cessford Castle, once the stronghold of the Kers. (A notorious family and one of the few to survive intact and to retain their status and their lands in spite of serious quarreling amongst themselves. They are noted for being left handed!)

The village of Morebattle comes next, before the climb up Grubbit Law and along the ridge to Wideopen Hill - the highest point on the walk,

before descending into Kirk Yetholm.

Day two..
